ATP Tour

From the Australian hard courts through the North American summer hard-courts and across the European clay swing, our tennis desk follows the ATP Tour week-by-week. Race standings, surface splits and qualifying numbers — sourced to the ATP feed, verified at the point of publish.

Format

Year-long calendar of Masters 1000, ATP 500 and ATP 250 events, ending at the season-finale in Turin. The race to the Finals is the headline number; the seedings follow on Monday after each week.

📊

Race standings

The race resets every January and counts the year’s points only. We publish a weekly table alongside the rolling 52-week ranking — they tell different stories and we mark which is which.

Recent reporting

Practice-court reads, post-match column and surface-by-surface form tables. Coach quotes in their own language where the player has translated for us.

Tournament grammar

The four things to read first

1

Tier separation

Masters 1000 points are weightier than ATP 500 and 250. The split isn’t proportional to prize money — it’s set against the tour calendar, and we track how the splits change year on year.

2

Race vs. ranking

The 52-week ranking carries eight events from the year. The race counts the year only. The seedings for the Finals are taken from the race, not the rolling ranking.

3

Seeding rules

At Masters 1000 events, only the top eight seeds get byes to the second round. Seeding follows the entry cut-off, which is several weeks before the tournament.

4

Surface splits

Clay, hard and grass each have their own statistical profile. We publish win-rate-by-surface rather than an overall figure, because a player’s tournament schedule is built around the surface profile they lead in.

What our ATP coverage does — and what it doesn’t

We publish a tournament preview on Friday, a Sunday column on the title winner, and a Monday race-table update. We do not take agent statements as confirmed without the tour office release, and we never republish rumours about withdrawals before the draw is updated.
